Things to consider with your dental implants

| June 15, 2015

DrT-Chicago-CE-June-2015Dr. Thompson traveled from Columbus, Oh and spent the weekend in Chicago attending a 2 day course on Computer Assisted Dental Implant surgery.  This dental implant technology is miles ahead of anything dentists would have thought possible 5 years ago.  As with most industries dental implant technology evolves quickly and Dr. Thompson is excited to learn and use the latest and greatest dental implant techniques that will improve the results of dental implants for our patients.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a titanium tooth root replacement that can replace one or more missing teeth as well as secure dentures.  Dental Implants are the best way to replace a missing tooth. Dr. Thompson has been placing dental implants for over 20 years.

More about the cool dental implant class Dr. T attended

Dr. Thompson gets geek-ed out my new dental technology and he was blown away by the volume of new information he learned at the seminar.   Computer Assisted Dental Implant surgery uses our Cone Beam 3D scan information to make a precise surgical guide that lets him know exactly where the implant needs to go in the patients mouth.  This results in a faster, very precise and easier dental implant surgery for the patient.  Typically most dentists only use a 2 dimensional x-ray to help them determine where and how to place the dental implant.  This 2 dimensional x-ray doesn’t give the complete picture of what is going on in a patient’s mouth.

With the Cone Beam 3D scan Dr. Thompson knows exactly the volume and shape of the bone in a dental implant patient’s mouth.  With the addition of the surgical guide he can precisely place the dental implant which means the dental implant will look, feel and function like a real tooth.  In addition the dental implant will last for years!

The Grandview Dental Care difference

Our patients know that we like to invest in technology to make their dental experience better.  Only about 5% of dentists have the technology and ability to place dental implants with Computer Assisted Dental Implant surgery.  Dr. Thompson and Dr. Hoellrich believe in investing in technology that makes their jobs more interesting and helps to make dental procedures easier on our patients.

These new innovations in dental technology keep dentistry new and exciting and the Grandview Dental Care team enjoys learning new ways to do things better!
