How can you tell if you have bad breath?

Watch the first 20 seconds of the video for an easy test that anyone can do.

Brush, Floss, …clean your tongue?

Everyone has heard to brush their teeth 2 times a day, floss, and use antiseptic mouthwash but cleaning your tongue? Yes Columbus Ohio people, tongue cleaning is an essential part of keeping your whole mouth clean.

Many people struggle with bad breath whether they know it or not. People spend money all the time on breath fresheners, gum, and candies to help aid in freshening their breath. Well save your money and just start cleaning your tongue instead. Breath fresheners and gum just mask the bad breath smell not remove it.

I have come across two products that I believe work very well to remove bad breath germs. GUM makes a tongue cleaner that has a plastic scraper on one side and a stiff brush on the other which help dig deep into the microscopic hairs on your tongue that trap bad breath bacteria. For those of you new to tongue cleaning or like a more “gentle” tongue cleaner the OraBrush system may suit you better. It uses a soft flexible brush on one side and cheek bristles on the other side which is used in conjunction with the OraBrush foam to freshen as well as remove the bacteria.

Personally, if you have a very heavily coated tongue (which means your tongue looks grayish or white and not pink) I would use the GUM brush initially to remove the bacteria and once you tongue regains it’s pink color then you can switch to the OraBrush System.

Bad breath is preventable

There are two types of hairlike structures on on the tongue that trap the bad breath bacteria. Some people are born with longer hairlike structures therefore they are more prone to bad breath or a not so pink tongue. Don’t worry  bad breath is preventable. If the tongue cleaners do not help your bad breath please come in to see your Columbus dentist or dental hygienist to better assess what may be causing your bad breath. Bad breath can also be a symptom of something else going on in your mouth or body.

Here at Grandview Dental Care we do carry the GUM tongue cleaner so you can request to get one in your goody bag when you come in for your regular scheduled dental cleanings.

Thanks for fighting the cause against bad breath yourself because no one is comfortable to tell you that your breath is not so fresh!
