Why I Became a Dental Hygienist

_DSC0093When I graduated from high school, I still was not sure what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. So instead of thinking of a career, I chose to think about what type of lifestyle I wanted in the future. Three very clear choices came to mind. First, I knew I wanted to be a mother and get married someday. Secondly, in case I did not find Mr. Right, I wanted to be able to support myself financially. Lastly, I wanted to love going to work everyday. Where in the world would a career allow me to do all that? Well, I found it! Becoming a Dental Hygienist has been one of  the best choices I’ve ever made.

I did not have a lot of financial support for college so I would have to attend a  2 year program.I began researching 2 year college and came across Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio  which offered a 2 year degree. Perfect! There was however a 2 year wait list, so I finished my general education requirements during this time because I was told the course schedule was very time consuming. During this time, I still needed a job so what better way to learn than to work in a dental office. So I picked up the phonebook, closed my eyes, and chose a dentist. When I called them they probably thought I was crazy but I asked them if they were hiring for any position. They were hiring for a Saturday receptionist, so I took it. While working at the office, I continued school and trained on the job to become an dental assistant. This was extremely beneficial for my career because I started to see that everyone is essential to create an exceptional dental team.
