What we do to reduce fear and anxiety for our patients
GrandviewDental | August 15, 2008Have you ever said to yourself, a dentist is a dentist. They all received similiar training in dental school… I just need to pick one off my list. SCARY!
Well… I’m not sure what you do for a living but in your profession I am sure there are different levels of quality, dependability, care, value and there are some people that “do what you do” that are better than others.
A dentist is no different. Some dentists are better than others. Many years ago we introduced a revolutionary idea: use every modern dental technique available to avoid putting our patients in pain.
Sedation Dentistry – Sleep Dentistry
Imagine sleeping through your dental procedure! When a patient has IV sedation for their dental appointment they remember nothing about the procedure and they are always in a happy mood when they are taken home. This type of sedation is a moderate sedation and the patient is fully arousable and able to respond to requests like “open your mouth a little wider please”.
But the patient doesn’t remember the shot, the time spent on the prodcedure, the sound of the dental drill…. it’s great for the patient. Find out all about it in our Patient Comfort section by clicking here.
Better ways to give the numbing shot
Did you know that there are different ways to give the shot for the numbing agent that make it more comfortable for the patient? Did you know that there are different types of numbing agents that work better in certain types of situations? They may cost us a little more in supplies, the dentist may need to take a little more time with you to give the numbing agent a chance to work, and the dentist needs the experience to know how they work. We know this and we think it’s worth the extra effort because it makes our patients more comfortable.
Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) for any appointment
Have you ever been to a dentist where Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) isn’t available? Nitrous Oxide provides just enough relaxation to take the edge off and we offer it to all our patients. Some even prefer it at their deep cleanings. If it makes you more comfortable, we want you to have it. And don’t feel silly about asking, some of us here at the office use it for our dental procedures too!
We are known for our “extra hand holding”
We know patients have questions and don’t know as much about dental procedures as we do, obviously. We get many patient referrals because we go “above and beyond” to make sure our patients have their questions answered and are comfortable about the procedure. We won’t make your feel rushed or silly for asking a bunch of questions. We like it! An educated patient is a great patient so come on…. ask us a question!
