TOUR DE GRANDVIEW RACING THROUGH COLUMBUS THIS WEEKEND

GRANDVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio – Top professional cyclists from the U.S. and around the world will speed through the streets of Grandview Heights this Sunday during the 19th annual Tour de Grandview presented by Lindsay Acura and Lindsay Honda.

A favorite stop on the summer cycling circuit, this event features world-class bicycle racing as well as a number events and activities for spectators, families and cyclists alike.

Among the events scheduled for this year’s Tour are a Kids’ Sprints competition, Celebrity Invitational, and six criterium races – all beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 1.  Races will run throughout the afternoon and feature professional men and women, as well as top amateur riders attacking the hilly, tree-lined streets just west of Grandview Avenue.   There also will be lots of exhibits, bike retailers and food vendors on site for the event.

The Tour de Grandview has been a showcase for emerging national and international cycling talent over the years.  Among the event’s many successful alumni are Olympic Bronze Medalist, Tour de France podium finisher and 2007 U.S. Pro Road Race Champion Levi Leipheimer; 2003 USPRO champion Mark McCormack; 2000 U.S. national road racing champion Nicole Freedman; and 2004 American Criterium Series champion Melissa Sanborn.

Three former winners are scheduled to be in this year’s Tour field, including local Upper Arlington resident Kirk Albers (2007), Paul Martin (2003 and 2006), and Andrew Crater (2010), who’s also a two-time Elite National Road Race Champ.

The Tour de Grandview Cycling Classic attracts an international field of professional cyclists to Columbus Ohio each year, as well as cycling enthusiasts and spectators.  Celebrating its 19th year in 2012, the Tour is organized by the non-profit Grandview Community Association with the support of the City of Grandview Heights, local volunteers and sponsoring businesses.  More information is available at www.tourdegrandview.com and www.facebook.com/tourdegrandview.
