A trip to the dentist could save your life!Dr. Abraham Hoellrich | March 15, 2010
At Grandview Dental Care we focus on the importance of oral health, not only for the obvious positive effects of a beautiful smile, but because of the effect oral health can have on your overall health.
Numerous studies have shown higher risks for heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and pre-term births for people who have periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease is caused by chronic inflammation that may also link it to other inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, kidney disease, and even certain forms of cancer.
Nearly 35,000 new cases of oral cancer are diagnosed every year. Unfortunately, only slightly more than half of those people will be alive in 5 years. Oral cancer has a poor survival rate not because it is hard to find or diagnose, but due to the fact that it is usually found late in its development. The survival rate jumps to 80-90% if discovered early. We check for oral cancer with every Doctor exam. If you use tobacco products in any form, make sure to see a dentist at least once or twice per year.
Here at Grandview Dental Care we are committed to helping our patients achieve optimum oral health. Each of our new patients receives a complete periodontal assessment as well as an oral cancer screening. We also include these exams with every doctor exam when you have your teeth cleaned too!
Please come see us regularly so that we can work together to keep you healthy! Has it been a while since the last time you visited a Columbus dentist? Make an appointment today!
