Veneers or  Lumineers, which one is for me?

Dr. Thompson uses Lumineers, a brand name of veneers, as well as traditional porcelain veneers. Depending on what you want and the type of smile you are trying to correct, Lumineers may be a solution for you. 

Lumineers are porcelain veeneers that have some advantages over traditional veneers in that there is little tooth structure removed and in many cases a shot or drilling is not needed.  Lumineers also have some limitations.  If your teeth stick out, adding a Lumineer, regardless of how thin it is, will make your teeth stick out even more and feel thick.

What are Veneers and how long do they last?

A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain that is bonded to a tooth to improve it color and shape. A veneer generally covers only the front and top of the tooth.

Both Lumineers(a brand name of Veneers) and veneers are made of porcelain. Porcelain will not stain or wear from brushing and its luster and translucency make it almost indistinguishable from natural enamel. Once the veneer is bonded to the tooth, it becomes extremely strong and durable.

Porcelain laminate veneers generally last between ten and twenty years.

What type of smiles can Veneers fix?

Veneers or Lumineers can be used to close spaces between teeth, lengthen small or misshapen teeth, or whiten stained or dark teeth. Typically Veneers are placed on the front teeth.

Veneers can also be considered "instant orthodontics" and can be used to straighten crooked teeth.
