Grandview Dental Care

Heather Kain

Hi, my name is Heather Kain and I have been in the dental field since 2001. I attended Sinclair Community College and graduated from the hygiene program in 2005. In 2009 I received my certification to deliver local anesthetic to patients.

I love my job. This career choice lets me be both a mom and a hygienist, the two things I love.
I currently reside in Newark with my husband, Joel and my five children, Seth, Sierra, Isabella, Owen and Jacob.

Fun Facts About Heather

If I wanted to get a really cheap meal in Grandview, where would I go?

Of course Taco Bell! Where else can you get a taco for 49 cents.

How did you come to work at Grandview Dental Care?

My husband’s family lives in Alexandria and has been begging us to move closer for years. At the time I was taking a class to receive my dental anesthesia license when I was paired up with the lovely Shana to give injections for the first time (lucky her….Right?) Well, during the class I explained I was moving to the Columbus area and was wondering if she knew of any job listings. Long a behold she did at her office Grandview Dental Care. I contacted them and it was a match made in heaven. Well at least for me.…just joking.

What is your favorite inexpensive family activity in Columbus?

Magic Mountain. Having kids that vary in age it is a great place to go for everyone to have fun even my biggest kid……my husband, Joel!

Where do you hope to travel to one day and why?

I hope to travel to South Korea someday. My mother was born in Seoul, South Korea. My Grandmother brought her family over to the United States when my mother was 10 years old. You probably wonder why I do not look Korean well my mother is half and I am a quarter so it is pretty much gone as far as looks go. I am teaching my children Korean traditions and the language. I will hope to be fluent in Korean before I visit the rest of my extended family that still lives in Seoul.

What’s so great about dentistry?

Getting to experience how a patient reacts when receiving their new smile. It warms your heart to see that you were a part of making them proud to smile everyday.

Interesting Dental tidbit

Unless you were born without a torso….the bacteria in your mouth does not stop flowing through you bloodstream at your neck. You do not want bacteria to reach the rest of your body so it is necessary for you to visit your dentist/dental hygienist every 6 months for a thorough cleaning and exam. At home to take care of the bacterial load you have to brush twice a day, floss at least once a day, and use an antiseptic mouth rinse daily for 30 seconds. Follow these steps and you are on your way to optimal oral health!

What question do you hear the most from patients?

If I have periodontal disease why doesn’t it hurt? This is an excellent question I get a lot. Think of perio disease as it relates to blood pressure. If you are not checking your blood pressure you may not be aware that your blood pressure is high until it is too late. Well perio disease is like that if you are not visiting the dentist regularly and not doing a proper homecare routine then you could have periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is never cured it is just maintained. So best to stop it before it starts. For more information on periodontal disease please visit this link or contact us for an comprehensive dental exam. www.perio.org

What’s your favorite snack or comfort food?

Any desert with lemon in it! Yumo!

What do you do when you aren’t at work?

I am a CEO of my house, nurse, childcare worker, teacher, chef, housekeeper, etc….I’m a Mom. I get paid in kisses and hugs.
